Review – Spectre Collectors: Too Ghoul For School – Barry Hutchison

One moment, Denzel is an ordinary teenager struggling with his homework. The next he faces a poltergeist and has a crack team of ghost hunters blasting in through the wall. This is the start of an adventure that sees joining the secretive Spectre Collectors.

This is a brilliantly funny book packed with Barry Hutchison‘s unique humour. Most of this is provided by Denzel’s sidekick, Smithy. He is full of one-liners and cringe-worthy comments. Couple that with some madcap, slapstick action and you have a recipe for a deliciously fun book. I know many a child who will fall about laughing while reading this book – myself included.

Of course, there is more to this book than humour. To start with there are gadgets galore. From poltergeist stun guns to fire rings, they’re all here. Then there’s an evil villain worthy of many a Hollywood blockbuster. Throw in friendship, family and loss and I can safely say there’s something for everyone. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for future Spectre Collector books.

If you liked this book, why not try: Greta Zargo or Who Let The Gods Out both of which are full of similar humour.
